Goto Lake – Gotomeer in Dutch - Bonaire
The Goto Lake – Gotomeer in Dutch – is a saltwater lagoon in the north of the island of Bonaire. This lake, 383 acres, is former sea bay, divided from the sea with some 70 meters, wide bar of corals. The water in the lake is salty, likely there is ongoing some water exchange with the sea through the porous limestone and lake also does not have any significant freshwater inlets. Some refer to this lake water as saline. Goto Meer offers beautiful scenery a nice view of the lake with its small islands and nearly pristine nature around it. Bonaire has developed a dry forest with numerous enormous cacti. The lake is in Washington-Slagbaai National Park and it is a wetland of international importance. In the swampy lake live several hundred Caribbean flamingos feeding on brine shrimp which flourish in the saline water. Location: Bonaire part of the Caribbean Netherlands. February 2021.
